Mrs. Cubbison's stuffing is a classic and beloved recipe. Here's a basic recipe to recreate it:
Ingredients:
- 1 package (12-16 ounces) of Mrs. Cubbison's Seasoned Cornbread Stuffing
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2-3 ribs of celery, diced
- 2-3 cups of chicken or vegetable broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: additional herbs such as sage, thyme, and parsley for extra flavor
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the diced onion and celery to the skillet and sauté until they become soft and translucent, about 5-7 minutes. If you're using additional herbs, you can add them in at this stage as well.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the Mrs. Cubbison's Seasoned Cornbread Stuffing with the sautéed onion and celery mixture. Mix well to ensure the butter and vegetables are evenly distributed throughout the stuffing mix.
- Gradually add the chicken or vegetable broth to the stuffing mixture, stirring gently as you pour. Add enough broth until the stuffing reaches your desired level of moisture. The amount of broth needed may vary depending on personal preference and the texture of the stuffing mix.
- Season the stuffing with salt and pepper to taste. Remember that the seasoning level will intensify as the stuffing bakes, so it's best to start with a conservative amount and adjust as needed.
- Transfer the stuffing mixture to a greased baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes.
- After 25-30 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top of the stuffing is golden brown and slightly crispy.
- Once baked, remove the stuffing from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Enjoy your homemade Mrs. Cubbison's stuffing alongside your favorite Thanksgiving or holiday meal!
